Rick Scott, L.Ac. MSOM

Hello, my name is Rick and I love nature. I am most at ease when in the outdoors. I was born and raised in the Northland and embraced "life above highway 8" in my hometown of Wascott. I spent my childhood swimming, fishing, and hiking through the woods. When I was a child, I became curious about what could be foraged in our area. So, I learned about some of the different berries, nuts, mushrooms, and herbs that grow in the woods around Gordon, Wascott, and Minong. That love of the land never left me, and even grew stronger, in my years away from the area.

When I left the Northland, I went to UW Madison where I studied philosophy and religious studies. I didn't know it at the time, but this education equipped me to be able to read and comprehend the complex system of Traditional East Asian Medicine that I would later study at the Midwest College of Oriental Medicine. In 2019, I completed my second BS degree in nutrition and an MS degree in acupuncture and herbal medicine.

Prior to entering Midwest College, I worked within the Health Insurance industry for over 10 years. I began as a customer service representative for TRICARE, the medical benefit for active-duty and retired military. This allowed me to gain a thorough grasp of the status of the healthcare industry and how to navigate complex claims processing procedures. I also learned how to listen to the beneficiaries' health concerns and stresses involved in dealing with healthcare providers. Later, I moved into the data and reporting aspects required to track patient outcomes and management of complex documentation. I believe this gives me a special insight into how this medicine can improve patient outcomes without the complexity of navigating a complex healthcare system.

On a personal level, I have had many loved ones that have struggled with the physical, mental, emotional, and social stresses that accompany pain. I have watched as family members tried to use pharmaceutical methods of pain management, only to fall victim to addiction, diminished outcomes, depression, or social stigma. I have also had loved ones who have been able to use Chinese Medicine to great effect with improved functionality and quality of life. This also has provided valuable insight into how I can help use this medicine to improve people's lives.

Tay Ramsey

I found my way to the practice of Chinese medicine through a combination of inspiration and necessity. As a youngster, I had a tremendous interest in medicine and wanted to be a doctor when I grew up. Necessity took over when, as an undergrad studying at the University of Washington, catastrophe struck. I got hit by a car while trying to cross the street as a pedestrian (seriously, people are really in too much of a hurry sometimes).

Thereafter, my interest in medicine became informed by my own healing journey. I chose to

incorporate acupuncture, bodywork and herbal medicine in my recovery because I'd heard excellent things about how effective they were for pain relief and better sleep. To this day, I credit complementary medicine in general and Traditional Chinese Medicine in particular for my better-than-average outcome after that accident. I'm so impressed, it's what I decided to do for a living. I first attended Seattle Massage School (now Ashmead College) to become a massage therapist and went on to study several styles of therapeutic massage and bodywork. Most recently, I studied Traditional Chinese Medicine at Midwest College of Oriental Medicine and am very pleased to offer expertise in Acupuncture, Tui Na, Herbal Medicine and Nutrition to services I can provide my patients.
